Beth’s Sunflowers have been asked many times over the years if we would organise and facilitate support group meetings for blood cancer patients and their families/friends. Following a meeting with, Evoca, one of our supporters in August we set a date for our first support group meeting.
Months of planning began to ensure we had the right specialist support in attendance and that we publicised the event so patients and their family would know about it. We had posters and flyers printed and displayed these at hospitals, doctors surgeries, clinics and community venues as well as advertising the group on social media.
The day arrived and we had a fabulous line up of specialist support including, blood cancer nurses, support workers from living with & beyond cancer, citizens advice and the fantastic Blood Cancer UK charity.

We had seven patients along with family and friends come to the meeting and each one received fantastic one to one advice, support and care from our amazing team.
The feedback from the event included:
“Fantastic event, the access we had to qualified, knowledgable and professional nurses was awesome, feel like I have learnt more in the last 2 hours than I have in the last 4 months.”
“It was wonderful to be listened to and not disregarded, I loved how the nurses and support workers came over to us, asked about my condition and how they could help or if there was anything they could explain.”
“It was such a warm, welcoming environment, I felt relaxed and able to speak, be open and honest about my fears and confusion.”

Beth’s Sunflowers would like to thank everyone that attended the group, patients, their families and the support workers and nurses. A special thank you also goes to Evoca for hosting us and providing the amazing beverages and refreshments.
Our next meeting is on February 26th 2026 at the QE Hospital in Birmingham in the Centre for Clinical Haematology from 12 noon until 3pm. Anyone wanting to attend, please drop me a message andrea@bethssunflowers.co.uk
