For the second consecutive year, the Park Tavern Pub in Kingswinford hosted a fantastic sunflower growing competition. With over 30 sunflowers entered, there were prizes available for the following categories:
- The Tallest Sunflower
- The Biggest Head
- Lizzie’s Award for the Most Number of Flowers on One Plant
- The Best Decorated Pot
The plants began their journey as seeds back in March and were sold for £10 each to the pub’s customers, with all proceeds going to Beth’s Sunflowers. After a hard-fought and very close competition on Sunday, August 31st, the winners were announced:
Our youngest entrant, Flo, won for the Tallest Sunflower, which grew to well over 7 feet…
Jennie and Coco took the prize for the Biggest Head—flower not Jennie…
Maggie won Lizzie’s Award for having over 12 separate sunflowers on one plant…
Em won for the Best Pot with her superb decoration of shorts and a vest, complete with nipples…
All enjoyed a great afternoon, and the charity raised over £1,650 from the sale of flowers, a wonderful BBQ (thanks to Baz for cooking and Phil for the food !), and a fantastic raffle.
Special thanks to Bea for her amazing help in looking after the sunflowers and encouraging everyone to participate, as well as to all who donated raffle prizes.
